The April´s Feria
The April´s Feria began as a livestock fair in
the year 1.847, its first location was the San Sebastian
fields, away from the city at the time. Consisting on
19 huts, it turned out to be a total success. As soon
as 1.950, it was necessary to separate the market from
the livestock.
In 1.973, the Feria settles down in Los Remedios neighborhood.
Its streets and stands are adorned with farolillos and
lights. In the morning, horse carriages parading the
feria, and men and women wearing the traditional flamenco
dresses, can be seen, all seasoned with a sevillanas
flavour .
The feria opening act is the lighting of the feria´s
main entrance, known as "encendido del alumbrado",
and the traditional "pescaito" (fried fish),
ending after a week with a fireworks show and the switching
off of the "alumbrado"
Holy Week
Seville´s most representative celebrations are
the Catholic Easter celebrations, known as the "Semana
Santa" (Holy Week). Usually taking in March or
April. It begins on Palm Sunday where the brotherhoods
accompanied by cornet marching bands traverse the streets
toward the Cathedral. A brotherhood is composed of nazarenos
carrying candles, penitents, and the "costaleros"
who carry the biblical figures.
The first brotherhoods were founded in the middle of
the XVI century. A group of Genoese motivated by their
devotion, paraded on procession on Holy Thursday night.
Soon after as many as thirty of brotherhoods were established
in Seville.
The XVII century is the Holy Week pinnacle, being introduced
the Virgin Mary´s processions. The XX century
witnessed a new golden age for the brotherhoods.
The Corpus Christi
This festivity commemorates the institution of the
Holy Communion, and takes place the sixtieth day after
Easter Sunday. It´s a major display of devotion
and retains all of its folk warnth. Different inserted
porcessions accompany the Corpus Christi. The seises
are ten children who dance and sing in the Cathedral.
San Miguel´s Fair

Feria was formerly located, was instituted by the King
Alfonso X The Sage. It is soon to be relocated to the
